Phil Collins had it right. Today had the potential to be a glorious day. The night was cool, and I slept great. The crickets and other night creatures were a soothing lullaby. And then.
Frustration and angst. There’s construction going on at the campground, and a swarthy team of redneck construction workers got started at 6am. Joyriding their little carts around the campsite and generally yucking it up. Ugh. Very frustrating. I will lodge a complaint with the management. And leave it at that.
Okay, shrugging off that ugliness.
One more night and I’ll be on the last leg of my trip. Tonight though I’ll be in Tennessee. I’ve not been to this campsite, but hopefully it’ll be pleasant. And less constructiony, and much less rednecky.
A Certain City in Illinois
Ever heard of the headless horseman? Ever heard of Metropolis? Guess who I saw?

SIR, FORT CAMPBELL, SIR
My campsite is on the Cumberland river, Lock A. I had to route through Fort Campbell to get there. Right at quittin’ time. I saw a lot of driverless cars! (That’s a lame joke, implying that the soldiers’ camo clothing makes them invisible. Yeah, lame.)
But the point was lots of cars. My timing made me go through right during a traffic jam.
But the transit did remind me of my time in the Navy. Just off base, the businesses that crop up are interesting. Today I saw tons of: tattoo parlors; adult bookstores; vape places; and I swear I saw at least one strip joint. That could have just been memories creeping in. And you wonder why young military folks get into trouble.
Lock A, in the Cheatham dam area of the Cumberland river is nice. Concrete pad, and right on the river.
I’m going to chill tonight. Go to bed early. And try to time my escape tomorrow through the Nashville and Knoxville traffic times. I figure if I head out around 8:30 am, I should miss the Nashville morning traffic by the time I get there, and easily miss Knoxville traffic.
Boy, this is a really dry post. Sorry. I think I’m anxious to get home. Wait… I know I’m anxious to get home.
Once I hit Missouri, I was just aching to get through this. It’s strange. Tennessee and its environs are beautiful, but other than getting to my home, There’s no excitement. Bummer.
But… there’s next year. Oh boy. I’m going to have to write a post about my planned trip soon.
For now, I wish you all a pleasant (insert your time of day here)
Peace and love…
Marv
